The client had a mixed approach to project management delivery and training. They wanted to put in place frameworks for project, programme and portfolio management together with career development, competence assessments and training.
Following an exhaustive tender process Novare Consulting was selected as the global PM partner for the organisation
This section focusses on the training solution rather than whole programme to establish a global PM function, with local responsibility for PM also being implemented at business level.
With regard to the training; it was very important that the US and UK businesses (key markets) were given the opportunity to attain certification that was relevant in their own locations. Therefore, we designed the training so that project level certifications were location dependent, and brought people together at Programme Manager Level globally, as programme management is independent of a project management method
With that in mind we delivered PMI training in the US and Europe alongside APM training in the UK and Australia. All the programme management training was aligned to AXELOS Managing Successful Programmes with AXELOS Management of Portfolio training selected to support the PM Function Heads
We also designed a PM Assessment Centre to determine the skills gaps for those delivering the mission critical programmes, together with training to support their specific needs
The training was developed and reviewed and pilots ran in all key locations. Latterly we have also supported the roll-out of the project, programme and portfolio management frameworks through practical, activity-based training.
Over the years the feedback has been consistently high and we have seen an exciting pace of P3M Maturity improvement throughout the organisation
At present we are also working in partnership with a UK Higher Education College to deliver the APM Associate Project Management Apprenticeship in a programme specifically designed for the client
